The Managing Editor is a vital leadership position on the mud desk by championing quality across the brand through the editing of internal and external facing copy, thorough fact-checking, day-to-day oversight on daily schedules and managing a team of journalists, editors, and freelancers who contribute to our editorial platform, Trends with Benefits.

The Managing Editor sits on the Creative team and owns all programming for Trends w/ Benefits. They steward the brand voice while providing a constructive, critical point of view—strengthening the team’s output.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own Trends w/ Benefits and act as lead editor for all general editorial pieces. This includes fact-checking, proofing cites, managing timelines, contract management (journalists, editors, and freelancers) and ensuring that Trends w/ Benefits is fully integrated into our content and marketing calendars.
  • Be responsible for SEO optimization on Trends w/ Benefits and carry out site admin duties including posting and maintaining articles, tracking and reporting on analytics, and sourcing imagery.
  • Weekly delivery of our Trends w/ Benefits newsletter, which entails assigning, organizing and polishing all included content.
  • Ensure that all copy aligns with the MUD\WTR style guide, while supporting brand voice and tone.
  • Work with the Digital Product, Brand, CX, and Growth teams to steward quality, consistency and execution across our website, packaging, social media, marketing, and email copy.
  • Establish yourself as the last set of eyes approving and polishing all consumer-facing copy.

Job requirements

  • 5+ years Content, Communications, Media and Brand experience
  • At least five years proven experience editing and leading teams in a fast turnaround, deadline-driven environment.
  • Editing a wide range of stories, from deeply reported investigations and scoops to daily and quick hits
  • Experience overseeing editors and writers – staff and freelance – in conceiving and sharpening pitches
  • Experience editing in a fast turnaround, deadline-driven environment
  • Working knowledge of the media landscape and our competitors, in order to help differentiate us from other brands
  • Previous experience managing and mentoring staff writers
  • Strong editing skills and acute attention to detail, including proven ability to work with the most sensitive investigations and scoops
  • Deep commitment to diversity and inclusion
